When I search for aeration online, I find a lot of websites having to deal with lawn aeration. Frankly I am obsessed with lawn aeration but I don’t care too much about ponds. Pond aeration is the process of adding oxygen to your water. I guess it helps out with the wildlife and makes it so that fish and other organisms can thrive in and below the water. Lawn aeration is also about adding oxygen, but it is added to soil rather than adding it to the water. Lawn aeration is relatively easy to do. Lawn experts recommend that you do it at least once every three years.

Most people don’t aerate their lawn as often as they need to. Not only does aerating pump oxygen into the soil but also helps your roots to grow much deeper. If you air your lawn for years in a row, you should notice a substantial difference and how thick and healthy your lawn will be. It is especially beneficial to fertilize your lawn at the same time that you aerate it.

Fast composting with Bokashi that’s right fast composting. The Bokashi compost bucket will turn your kitchen scraps into lovely rich compost within seven to ten days, now that’s not bad is it. Another good thing is that you can keep it in your kitchen as its composting, the secret of the Bokashi system is a well sealed lid, to retain any odours, you just layer all your food scraps into your bokashi bucket and add your em starter to start it all off as I say this process takes about seven to ten days. At the base of the bucket you have a spigot, you use this to release the compost tea that accumulates in the base of your bucket and can be used as a liquid fertiliser for your plants or as a foliar spray, because the compost tea is so full of nutrient this a very good by-product that you get from your bucket.

The debate over hydroponics versus organics is never ending. The two share many of the same ideas. The difference is in the way you apply the nutrients. Organic gardens require a biological environment to break down the organic matter. Once this organic matter is broken down, the roots, combined with water, are able to absorb the organic salts. This requires everything to be perfect in the root zone. The temperature, moisture levels and air content need to be in harmony with the plant.

In hydroponics, the root zone is either in a inert growing medium such as clay pebbles, coco coir or even suspended in air. The roots get their nutrients from the feeding source which is controlled by means of temperature, salt content and nutrient bases. Plants are able to absorb all the nutrients in an efficient manner. If ever there is a problem, the gardener is able to easily flush the root zone and apply the proper remedy.

In the center of the arrangement of greens, a tall hand-made red candle and at each place setting, a shoulder corsage or boutonniere of greens and berries may be placed. This simple arrangement is effective with a white cloth or red one. Think of it as landscaping ideas for the dining room table. Creamy white Lennox or white Wedgwood china completes the picture. Plummer’s famous Christmas tree china could be used – in doing so, however, be conservative with the evergreens for the centerpiece, as the china is so highly decorative in itself.

A red cloth may serve as a foil for a whitened branch in a simple line arrangement, or for a whitened evergreen bough, hung with tiny Christmas balls or small gifts for the family.

White poinsettias make a striking arrangement against a red cloth. But I should point out that they are not available in every florist shop and accordingly may be expected to be more expensive than the red poinsettias.

And now for the hostess whose dining room is in the modern manner and whose table is long and narrow. On three mirrors, spaced at intervals along the length of the table, little Christmas balls may be grouped as bunches of grapes. The new plastic balls are especially attractive, and there are delightful tear-shaped ones, too. Silver and blue balls are effective on a pale gray cloth; silver and green and gold on a green or gold-colored cloth. The balls may be used alone or in combination with gilded or silvered magnolia, bay or rhododendron leaves.

The Galtonia candicans (Hyacinthus) bulb may be lifted or left in the ground. If lifted, wait until after the first frost. Store in a cool place. If not lifted, cover well with a mulch of leaf mold or compost after the top inch of the ground is frozen. We also pull our solar garden lights and put them away for the winter.

Gladiolus

The corm of the gladiolus is easier to lift if taken up as the leaves begin to turn yellow rather than to wait until the foliage has ripened fully. If convenient, dig when the ground is dry.

After lifting, cut the foliage at a point 3″ above the corm and dry the corms in the sun for several hours each day for a period of three or four days. At night shelter them in a frost-proof shed or garage. Complete the drying process for a few days more in the shed. Before storing in a dry, cool place, clean and inspect each corm carefully. Dust with an insecticide powder.

Aphids eat and destroy plants by chewing away at leaf and stem systems. Once an active colony they can become quite destructive and even an army of ladybugs, their natural enemy, may not be able to keep them at bay. Thus apart from buying pesticides that may have side effects on your health and also your plant’s health there is a natural and healthier way. The solution for aphids is through the use of a detergent and a bright yellow container. Find a container that is fairly large in size but not too large, something that can hold about five to ten gallons of water. Fill the container with water to the brim if possible and then add one tablespoon of colorless detergent into the water and mix it well. Let it stand for an hour or so. Place the container near the affected plants and let it stay there. The aphids will be attracted to the yellow container, enter it and drown themselves Landscape Design.
